Production of a Phosphate Concentrate from the Tailings of a Niobium

Apatite is the main source of phosphorous for the making of chemical fertilizers. While apatite is usually recovered from phosphate orebodies as the primary product of a mining exploitation, this paper documents the approach taken to produce a phosphate concentrate as a secondary product from the tailings of a niobium ore and niobium metal and oxides (table 3). mexico and Canada continued to be the leading destinations of united States ferroniobium exports. Al production requires more energy and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions (GEE). The life cycle includes the mining and production of Al from bauxite or scrap, production of ingots, industrial uses, and the management and recycling of generated waste. The industry consumes approximately 16 kWh per tonne of Al.Demand for niobium and tantalum is increasing exponentially as these are essential ingredients for the manufacture of, among others, capacitors in technological devices and ferroniobium. Mine tailings rich in such elements could constitute an important source of Nb and Ta in the future and alleviate potential supply risks. Research progress on extraction technologies of niobium

The effect of low-grade niobium on niobium extraction is discussed. Besides, the sub-melting salt method and the combined roasting-acid leaching method developed in recent years are also used to extract niobium from low-grade niobium resources. These two methods demonstrate great extraction effect and application value, The processing scheme usually retained for phosphate ore is grinding, desliming [2,4] to remove fine particles, followed by a direct [3] or reverse [2] flotation of apatite. Simultaneous Recovery of Niobium and Sulfur from Carbonate Niobite Ore

Exploring new ways to acquire niobium resources is essential to resolve niobium supply risks, due to the fact that, at present, 99% of niobium is controlled by only two countries. In the present work, a flotation technique was applied to separate niobium from low-grade niobite ore. To maximize the utilization of the original ore resources, pre The Ta–Sn ores from Penouta occur as oxides hosted in leucogranite. Life cycle assessment of ferro niobium SpringerLink

Purpose Ferro niobium (FeNb) is a metallic alloy whose industrial use has been increasing steadily in the last decades. This work aims to systematize the available information on FeNb production, provide its inventory data and generate its first technologically representative publicly available life cycle impact assessment (LCIA). The final products of the process are niobium oxide and potassium tantalum salts. Niobium oxide has a purity of 98.5% and impurities of Ta, 1.85% as Ta 2 O 5. Tantalum salt, after calcination and purification, has a purity of 97.3% and impurities of Nb 2 O 5, around 1.6%.
